Take a look at this:

I thought this was an interesting article, and it is an underlying principle in everything I sew. In this mass-produced society, I get great pleasure from making clothes for myself and my daughter. I feel that as a society, in this age of connectivity, we are so disconnected from the daily essentials of life. I'm speaking of food and clothing, and the fact that we really don't know where our stuff comes from. We don't know how and under what conditions our food and clothing get to us. Now, I'm not advocating vegetarianism or anything. I just would like people to stop and think about it. I have, and it has led me down this path of discovering the joy of something handmade or homemade. With each article I make, I know and appreciate the time, energy and love that goes into each handmade item. So, in my own way, my sewing is a protest of sorts against the mechanism that is mass production.
